I've had glasses since I was about ten years old, currently I'm pretty steady at -4.75 and -4.50. When I started shooting IPSC in 2003 I used contacts and normal sunglasses but that was soon dropped because they were not fast enough. I started shooting with my normal glasses in search for a better alternative. It took some time to finally land at at the Rudy Project Exception RX. I researched them all along the way, Adidas, Oakley, ESS etc. but none could meet my requirements. Most offer two sizes of inserts where the limit between large and small is at -4.00 I had to have large. Another thing that bothered me with most others is that they interfered with the natural movement of my eyelashes. My researched led me to the Rudy Exception with in frame RX, I contacted an optician in Stockholm specializing in sports eyewear and he could make large inserts that suited my needs. www.sportoptik.se I've had my Rudy Exception glasses since December 07 and am extremely pleased with my glasses. Apart from them being expensive due to the special RX inserts I can not think of anything negative. Awesome pair of glasses and I recommend them to anybody looking for inserts or in frame RX. In frame is much better but not as good looking. I have the following lenses. LaserBlack - Only used in Colorado and in Bali where the sun was really strong and reflexes sharp.

My Exceptions with ImpactX Red Photocromatic
In Frame RX, with flip up lenses. Warning for the Steve Urkle effect.
You can have the RX in frame with lenses in the flip or reverse (don't know why but possible) or you just remove the RX and have lenses in frame. Great versatility |

A few more images
Here are the Exceptions with almost all my lenses. Here you see the two different sizes and styles of lenses. For shooting I strongly recommend the top ones as the wrap around the eye for better protection. I also recommend using ImpactX lenses as they can withstand extreme harsh treatment.
Model in this photo series is a SVI 124mm .40 tube filled with 17 Archipelago 180gr Flat Nose and 1 180gr Hornady HAP. ;-) |
